Hey folks! Check out this eye-opening Vancouver-based film called “No Fun City”, a documentary by Melissa James & Kate Kroll talking about the controversy in the Vancouver music scene.

On Saturday July 7th, 2012 I had the pleasure of seeing one of the most exciting bands in Vancouver during a hot summer day inside the beautiful ballroom of the Canadian Legion on Commercial Drive. A little FYI, Heads Hang Heavy are a local-based band that combine the styles of Ska, Reggae, and a hint of Hip Hop all in one.
Words cannot express how impressed I was with their set. Heads definitely have everything I enjoy in a band…
Excellent Stage Presence
I personally was blown away by the energy of ALL the members of the band, but I’d like to specifically give huge credit to Trumpet extraordinaire/keyboardist Chad Taylor and front men Chris and Elgin. And course, who could ever forget local MC Ian House wearing the awesome Elephant mask and dancing around on stage, knowing he’s having such a blast! Seeing those talented folks dancing and running around while playing their songs with a high capacity crowd puts a smile on my face.
Audience Interaction
Encouraging the crowd to boogey down, do a dance-off, distributing free yummy fruits…the list goes on and on! Those are such rad things Heads Hang Heavy did to get the crowd all pumped up.
The Music
To say that Heads Hang Heavy’s music has such a very fun and positive attitude would be stating the obvious. But I must say, their songs just makes you feel good. Additionally, I just love the fact that they have such unique chord progressions in their songs. Seeing MCs like Atma and Ian House rapping to the band’s style is something that you don’t see everyday in today’s music, hence why I always encourage trying out combining different sounds and blend them into something cool. On top of this, I just love listening to the exciting vocal harmonies of Elgin and Chris.
Overall, I had an amazing time! What a great way to enjoy summer by partying with a hundreds of people while checking out a very tight band such as Heads Hang Heavy.
